The Prefecture of Lasithi covers the eastern part of the island of Crete. It is surrounded by the Cretan Sea in the north, the Carpathian Sea in the east and the Libyan Sea in the south.
The prefecture is well-known for its interesting archaeological sights as well as its unique in Europe Palm Tree Forest at Vai Beach. Also there are many lovely towns and resorts in Lasithi, such as the famous coastal resort of Elouda and the impressive town of Agios Nikolaos. The well known Spinalonga islet (the setting of the famous novel "The Island") is also located opposite Lasithi. There are boat trips to the islet throughout the summer months.
